Evga Graphics Card Serial Number

72

I have an Nvidia GPU GTX 470 - Can I get it's serial number with out opening the case?

EDITThanks for all the comments: I tried the Device path as well as the WMIC command (which are the same actually)Value returned from the WMIC command

The WMIC (device path is) 2F1C4782 which is translated to: 790382466 (converted to decimal).

My card SN is: 101500021088 - I think this does not get the correct values.

Note: Note that this technique only works if the hardware manufacturer implements it. I can't give a percentage of accuracy, but I would guess the big players would implement it. If it's not implemented, Windows will generate a unique number instead.

Method 1 - Device Manager

Open the Windows Device Manager. Find your video card under Display Adapters. Double-click on it. Under the 'Details' tab, select the 'Device Instance Path' property.

Method 2 - WMI

Using WMI, at the command line, run the following command.

Method 3 - Use a Tool

A program like SIW will grab the PNP Device ID for you, but it won't do the parsing for the serial number.

Parsing It

Looking at the PNPDeviceID value, break it up by '.

  • The first piece it the bus type. For me, it is PCI.
  • The second section describes the card. There's a vendor code, model number, etc.
  • The last section contains a number separated by ampersands. The serial number is the second number in that list, formatted in hex.

I contacted Nvidia via chat-support on this subject, and unfortunately the official answer to your question is no:

the only way to get the serial number of the graphics card is, it will be written on the graphics card hardware or the box of purchase.

The new EVGA GeForce GTX 970 is powered by the next-generation NVIDIA Maxwell architecture, giving you incredible performance, unmatched power efficiency, and cutting-edge features.

Maxwell is the most advanced GPU architecture ever made, designed to be the engine of next-generation gaming. Inspired by light, it was designed to solve some of the most complex lighting and graphics challenges in visual computing. For the first time, gaming GPUs can dynamically render indirect light using the new VXGI (Voxed Global Illumination technology. ) Scenes are significantly more lifelike as light interacts more realistically in the game environment.

EVGA is also proud to introduce the best graphics card cooler ever

26% Cooler
36% Quieter
250% Lower fan power
400% Longer Lifespan

With optimized Swept fan blades, double ball bearings and an extreme low power motor, EVGA ACX 2.0 delivers more air flow with less power, unlocking additional power for the GPU.

'.. I was able to overclock significantly and that is one of the great benefits of the 970, one of the benefits of the Maxwell architecture allows for some pretty insane overclocks.....'

TechPowerUp 2014/09/01
'Overclocking our sample worked extremely well, reaching the highest clocks inn our GTX 970 test group. Memory topped out at beyond 2 GHz, in part due to the card's well-overclocking Samsung chips. EVGA's heatsink does not cool the memory chips with the baseplate, but uses the fans' airflow instead, an approach that works quite well.'

Fudzilla 2014/09/01
'With the ACX/ACX 2.0, EVGA designed a special heatsink with a lot of dissipation surfaces. To maximize dissipation volume, EVGA used a few tricks, such as tall fins at the sides of the cooler. The heatsink was designed in such a way to minimize airflow turbulence between the fans, with clever barriers directing the airflow.'

Pros: fast and quiet. generated beautiful graphics.

Cons: the first card lasted about 1 year and 9 months. the RMA card lasted 8 months. I do not over load my card at all, mostly playing world of warships, a little bit of fornite, mostly streaming and civ 6 GTA 5.

Other Thoughts: I noticed the first card died when I woke my computer up. the RMA replacement did the same when I woke the computer up from sleep after shower. is there a known issue for evga cards that wakes up from desktop sleep mode?

Ownership: more than 1 year
Good performance for years now

Other Thoughts: If noise is an issue, I wouldnt know as my case has what is basically a box fan built in. I play crysis in winter to heat my home.

Ownership: more than 1 year
Decent GPU if you don't buy a 10 series.

Other Thoughts: So far, the card is still working fine after a couple years of use.

Ownership: more than 1 year

Pros: Great graphics, I play overwatch and other games and I get about 60-70FPS on my Acer 27 inch widescreen (which is also a great LED moniter)

Cons: little pricey but none so far! hopefully it stays that way!

Other Thoughts: Perfect for gamers and other things!

Ownership: more than 1 year

Pros: had this now for over 2 years , and i have really put it through its paces

Cons: its 3.5 gigs with a .5 if slower ram

Other Thoughts: yes a great card and sli them and you got a good thing going

Ownership: 1 month to 1 year

Pros: I own a little over 200 games on my computer, and not a single one has encountered anything under 60FPS on max settings. Things like The Witcher 3, Overwatch, The new Mirror's Edge, Battlefield, the new Skyrim, etc.
Keeps itself *decently* cool
Lots of support for displays, got 2 monitors (1 DVI, 1 Displayport) and a TV on HDMI all going at the same time.
The bits of blue accent my color scheme

Cons: Running under extreme load for extended periods of time, the card gets just over 100 degree F. Not a big deal, but I like to keep my GPUs generally under 100. If I was concerned I could add more fans or put a waterblock on this.

Other Thoughts: Now, I think the 1070 (not the founders edition) is pretty similar in price, so I'd go buy one of those just for the boost in performance, but this card is a good one.

Ownership: more than 1 year

Pros: SLI installation and never a complaint.
Last week a couple of months shy of 2 years I retired them for a EVGA 5173.

Cons: None from this guy.

Other Thoughts: Nvidia should have been forthright in the first place about the ram. I gave one of the pair to a friend who was using a 760 and he was impressed with the upgrade. I haven't played everything yet with the 1070 but to date it is out performing my SLI with Doom, Mankind Divided and Fallout 4/New Vegas. The SLI would have stuttering from time to time. They ran unigine heaven 2.0 faster than the new 1070 all else equal, so it's no slouch.

Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Fans did not function properly after a year.Sincerely,
